BLAST-OFF! Heavy extraterrestrial appeals from “Argentinian paranormal art project” (((VLUBA))), who have been casting heavy spells since 2001 with releases on such estimable freak-stables as Chocolate Monk, Ikuisuus and Buh. Dylan Nyoukis describes their latest, A-Mu-Kia, as “doofus drone soul vibration with added mercury spit pulse” and who are we to argue??? In civilian terms, think undulating cosmic synths strafed and studded with druidic vocal incantations, abstract guitar-damage, and free percussions that sounded beamed in from some mythical Daniel Vallancien or Limpe Fuchs side. Fans of Vibracathedral Orchestra, Spectrum, Christine 23 Onna, Anton Heyboer, Bruce Russell etc will feel right at home here, but such flailing comparisons sell (((VLUBA)))’s textural innovation and originality short - this is music that sounds genuinely not of this world. Excited about this one.
