Breaking The Plastic Hymen, Vinyl Virgins & Lo-Fi Whores

Deadstock copies of this deadly, dustmite’s musica box, a kwadrooople (4x) 7” scrapheap challenge, interlaced with rattled, sun-starved songs released in 1997 on Fisheye, a sturdy but short-lived UK label that released the likes of Jackie-O-Motherfucker and Sandoz Lab Technicians, with their whole catalogue feeling very in line with the almighty Very Good Records and other such undesirables.

Amidst the wealth of specially selected and utterly concession-less DIY crud there seems to lie a couple of unlikely offerings, one of which being the cosmic climb of Ricahrd Youngs & Simon Wickham-Smith’s “Walking The Mongoose”, which almost lifts this sorry lot out of the gutter for the best part of four minutes, before Negative Kite pulls em all right back down in a thrashing, distorted death-roll that could have fallen off the back of Karl Blake’s “Prehensile Tales”.

Some further highlights from all this platter damage include Paste’s, mystic, Don Bikoff-conjuring, Maxine Funke-shadowing “Abuse of Celebrity”, the welcome, familiar thump and murmur of the Shadow Ring and the shapeshifting dirge of Prick Decay, all of which  sit in amongst a joyous shambles that sees a slow, rumbling mathwise burner followed by a twisted-brass pub jolly and all sorts’a bad behaviour and wild comboz.

One please!!
