ESSENTIAL mini-album of designer hyper-tekno and barn-burning amen fire from Milan’s Giorgio di Salvo aka AAR, self-released in collaboration with Haunter Records. While clearly in thrall to the loony-toons excesses of breakcore, and to the fucked-scientist rave deconstructions of EVOL, Haswell et al, what makes this release special - despite some vobes-killing talk of “algorithmic pattern creation” and “generative music matrices” - is how it (genuinely) keeps one very dilated pupil on the dance. It’s legit body music not just brainfloss. Across seven untitled tracks there are moments that channel tear-out Bloody Fist jungle, the AFX of ‘Phloam’ and ‘Flaphead’, and a stunning trio of melancholic steppas (including a stand-out collaboration with label boss Heith) that gesture in the direction of another Haunter associate, John T. Gast. All told, a pretty stellar release! Edition of 100, each one wrapped in a different hand-printed folder, bit pricey but deeeeeeead sexy.
