Finally delivering the full-length goods after knocking us out with last year's 'Managerial Material' 7", it turns out that The World aren't quite the second coming of Christ after all BUT fuck me if their historically over-aware DIY funk-punk isn't good value. The lyrical obnoxiousness of Sneaks (‘You’re so hot / when you shop’) is mercifully blunted by hard riffing, rubbery basslines and danceable dubbed-out drums that characterised the 99 Records yes-wave of ESG, Y Pants and Liquid Liquid, and their European counterparts Maximum Joy and Kleenex - hell, like Golden Teacher, had this band materialised in the DFA-drunk early 2000s they'd've prompted a major label bidding war. Don't hold it against them.
