Debut album of pulverising, high-res industrial dread from Pact Infernal. It won't win any prizes for subtlety - even the quiet bits are about as low-key as a rhino in a leather trenchcoat - but this is powerfully immersive and immaculately executed music which will essentially trample and suffocate you into submission. Even if the (mysterious) figures responsible are just frustrated video game / movie music composers waiting for Hollywood's call (aren't they all?), and even if occasionally the pungent opium-den orientalism is a bit overegged, coming over less Skull Disco and more Bruce-Wayne-in-Tibet, you will find your cynicism outpaced and outgunned by the sheer concussive force of the sound design. Don't mistake this for a techno or dnb record: while it clearly comes from, and will appeal to, a certain warehouse sensibility, like their 12"s before this it is pretty committed to its own erratic tempos and beat patterns, at times leaning towards a Muslimgauzey death-rattle, at times building into a steady martial thump, but never settling. It is, in every sense, immense. Huge recommendation for fans of Ancient Methods, Kerridge, Lustmord, Synth Sense, Black Rain.
