Plain Songs
With a not-too-big-not-too-small-just-the-right-size catalogue stretching back to 2008, the duo of Jarrod Zlatic and Nisa Venersoa set an early template for droning, synth-daubed dub-pop dream-logic that pals/associates like F ingers, CS + Kreme and Kallista Kult have been drawing from and building upon in recent times, so it’s good to hear these OGs back and bossing the territory. Each FD album to date has felt like a significant departure, or at least an evolutionary step, from the last, and Plain Songs is no exception: aided and abetted by Sam ‘Kreme’ Karmel in the studio, there’s a vivid but deliciously OFF digital gloss and clarity to their heady psychedelia. Alter invoke Nico's 'Janitor of Lunacy', but we can also hear things like The Raincoats, MAAT, Jac Berrocal and Spencer Clark's Fourth World Magazine in there... a strange brew indeed...highly recommended!
