Jochem Peteri’s dewy, thugged-out ambient / hypno-house epic, The Dead Bears, remastered and re-cut across three LPs to include the tracks that were previously only on the CD. Feels like a lifetime ago that this full-length fever-dream entered our bloodstream and bound itself permanently to the opioid-receptors in our brain - but it was only 2007. Not that it sounds old anyway, a city-of-crystal spun out of desaturated disco-fragments, layers of translucent synth-shimmer and the ground-up bones of dub-techno. ‘Trespassers’ and ‘The Force’ will always be the iconic cuts, instantly recognisable, but I reckon there's every bit as much juice in the heavily tranq'd hip-hop/electro of ‘Star Power’ and the title track; ‘NY’, which feels like a hauntologised MAW or Murk production; and the edgeless inner drift of 'Shine Eyed' and 'Kemo Sabe'. If you don't own this album in some shape or form... sort it out!
