4E (Canadian producer Can Oral - hope he'll forgive us saying, what a name!) made some very underrated, magnificently austere and atmospheric electro in the mid-90s, released primarily through Mille Plateaux and Force Inc. The album Blue Note
is a solid place to start, but The Gentle Killer EP
(1996) for Sockett has enjoyed more of an afterlife, becoming pretty sought-after second-hand. Deservedly so: every track's a, er, gentle killer, especially the Dopplereffekt-esque 'Warm Leatherette', and personal favourite 'Mind Frame' - a very juicy but perfectly pared-down synthesis of heavy dub, blunted hip-hop and Connection Machine-style Detroit techno. Handy reissue, this.
